French-door refrigerators blend design and function. They feature stylish double doors that reveal the large fridge on top and a freezer drawer below. These refrigerators stand out due to their distinctive features, such as door-to-door dispensers and more expensive ice makers.
We asked experts like Ladina Schopf, interior designer and architect, as well as the founder of LS Projects, for tips on how to select the best one. They considered the storage capacity, layout, and energy efficiency, among other features.
GE Profile Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
As its name suggests, the GE Profile series is aimed at consumers who want to integrate cutting-edge features in their kitchens. This fridge has them all, from a Keurig K cup coffee maker on the door to a sophisticated dispenser of water. But these flourishes don't mask mediocre performance, especially in the refrigerator's freezer and an ineffective temperature-controlled drawer. Since this refrigerator costs a premium, I expect higher quality.
This fridge is a good choice, despite the small blip. It boasts a spacious freezer compartment, which is uncommon in counter-depth French door refrigerators. Furthermore, it holds a fair amount of frozen food as compared to similar models.
Inside the fridge, you'll find 17 shelves and compartments. The refrigerator compartment is 18.5 cubic feet, which is standard for a French-door refrigerator at this price. It comes with a decent size freezer in the left side. However, it's not the largest one I've seen.
You can alter the shelves in both compartments to create customized storage arrangement for what you want to store. The interior design of the GE PYE22PYNFS is stylish, too. The LED lighting adds an attractive touch. The storage bins in the door include a third shelf that can be folded down to store large items. The drawers include temperature controls that let you set them to Meat, Beverage or Deli settings. The drawers are easy to shut and open however I found the plastic's textured coatings to be a bit rough on my fingers.
The GE PGE29BYTFS Smart Refrigerator includes all the features you'd expect from a refrigerator within this price range. It has Wi-Fi, app support and GE's SmartHQ Software. french door fridge freezer , which is available for iOS and Android devices, lets you control your refrigerator from anywhere in the world, and it has a ton of customization options. It also sends you notifications when the door is left unlocked as well as when the fridge or freezer needs to be defrosted, and when the filter has to be changed.
It is nice if the GE PYE22PYNFS came with Precise Fill, an option available in other GE refrigerators that allows you to set the number of cups of water you'd like to dispense at a time. It does offer an indicator on the fridge's display to show how much water you have remaining, but that's not as useful as Precise Fill.
Bosch Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
Designed to look like a seamless piece of your kitchen Bosch's French door refrigerator is one of a kind. The fridge uses fingerprint-resistant stainless steel, which is a great feature for busy households. It also comes with a veggie compartment to keep vegetables and fruits fresher longer and dual compressors for maximum preservation of food. The Ice maker is among the most efficient we've ever tested, and it produces a pyramid-shaped form of ice with a low water consumption. This refrigerator is a great option for a single family or kitchenettes that want an integrated look and top-of-the-line food preservation.
This fridge was the top-rated refrigerator in our Refrigerators Test for several reasons. Its freezer temperatures held firm at just above 0 degrees Fahrenheit, never changing more than a fraction an inch. This is essential to avoiding freezer burn. The fridge section of the fridge also performed well, reaching the desired initial set temperature within a matter of hours and keeping that temperature steady over the course of our tests.
Bosch is known for its high-end appliances. It's therefore no surprise that Bosch's counter depth fridge Bosch counter depth fridge can be connected to your home Wi Fi and Bosch's platform Home Connect. The app lets you monitor and control your fridge remotely from your tablet or smartphone. The refrigerator is pricey, but offers great features and functions at a reasonable price.
While the fridge is an amazing piece of equipment however, it is important to understand the limitations. It has a narrow space for shelves, so you'll have to think creatively when storing tall items. The shelves aren't spillproof and can easily be stained or damaged by sharp items. The trays can be easily removed from the refrigerator. However, they must be cleaned frequently to stop the growth of mold.

LG Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
The LG LRFLC2706S is an excellent counter-depth refrigerator that packs plenty of storage into the frame's compact size. It has a sleek, fingerprint-resistant stainless-steel finish and features thick handles that make them comfortable to grip. The fridge has the standard French door layout, with two rows of spill-capture shelving and a set crisper drawers. The upper right shelf can be folded down to give tall items more room. You'll also find a full width drawer for deli and an inside water dispenser.
The refrigerator comes with an ice maker, making it easy to move the ice when needed. The freezer features thoughtful design elements, as well, such as sliding drawers that help better organize the position of your items. It also has a large bin that can hold plenty of frozen food and a separate ice storage bin.
Smart InstaView panel is another cool feature of the refrigerator. You can control the temperature, lighting, and more of your fridge from your smartphone. It's a great method of monitoring and managing your refrigerator, especially if you're away from home.
However, while the Smart InstaView is a neat feature, it does not necessarily improve the overall performance of the refrigerator. In fact, it took longer to defrost and chill foods in this refrigerator as compared to other fridges we tested. This is likely due to its greater capacity.
The other issue we have with the door of this refrigerator. The handles that are sunken allow shorter people to open them from the bottom. However, taller people still have a hard time closing them without slamming them. It would have been much better if they had a front-mounted handle.
The LG Counter-Depth MAX fridge is a great choice for those who want to combine the look of a French door refrigerator with a more efficient design. Its capacity is above average for counter-depth models and is able to cool evenly. It's also a little less than the best counter depth refrigerator with an icemaker, which makes it an attractive option.
Frigidaire Counter Depth French Door Refrigerator
If you're looking for a French door fridge that doesn't cost a fortune this Frigidaire is a solid option. It's a simple fridge that might not be as eye-catching as its rivals however it has enough features to make it a suitable choice. Its most significant feature, the temperature adjustable drawer, helps to keep food like meat and vegetables fresher for longer. It also comes with a large ice maker as well as a water dispenser.
Another feature that is worth mentioning is the "Chill Drawer" that sits above the two crisper bins. This drawer allows you to use a portion of the fridge's cooling power into this area so that you can keep food items that require special attention. french door refrigerator freezer can alter the feature using a slider that's located right on the outside of the drawer. You can also use this to adjust the general cooling settings for the whole fridge, though I've found that adjusting the generic settings tends to produce better results than specific ones.
During my tests, I found that the temperatures in the refrigerator were fairly consistent across different parts of the refrigerator. The temperatures in the middle, top and bottom of the fridge didn't differ significantly from 38 degrees. This is a great performance however it doesn't rank among the best in our rankings.
This fridge has a few other neat features, including a temperature-monitoring display that alerts you to fluctuations and provides a forecast for the day ahead. You can also combine this fridge with a smart thermometer for more precise measurements of the internal temperature of your fridge.
The Frigidaire FGHB2866PF's exterior is made of stainless steel with a grey-bodied body which has a "smudge-proof" finish. It does a great job of repelling fingerprints and streaks even when compared with shiny stainless steel finishes on other appliances I've tested.
